a major gang of truck thieves were jailed for a total of 20 years. Worcester Crown Court heard charges ranging from conspiracy to steal, to handling stolen goods worth more than S360,000. Police believe the gang is responsible for the theft of more than WO trucks and their loads, worth at least Ilm.

Recorder Christopher Murray, described the gang as conducting "a highly sophisticated and highly commercial conspiracy...almost like an army operation".

Prosecutor Nicolas Cartwright told how the gang was caught when a truck got stuck under a low bridge near Hanbury: Worcs. Cartwright said detectives with West Mercia Police Crime Squad raided a farm near Droitwich and discovered goods linked to the theft of a truck from a depot in Cheshire.

Andrew Parkes of Bilston and Jason Cresswell of Oldbury admitted conspiracy to steal and were each sentenced to five years in prison. Mark Parkes, Andrew's twin brother, also of Bi!sten, was found guilty of conspiracy at an earlier hearing and was also jailed for five years.

Farmer Tony Webley of Bradley Green, near Bromsgrove, was jailed to three years for handling stolen goods; Jugit Singh Sunar of Sedgley, near Wolverhampton, was jailed for two years after admitting handling stolen goods.
