• As CM went to press Exel Tradeteam drivers, based in Birmingham, voted in favour of industrial action in a ballot over pay and safety disputes (CM 22-2B Nov).

Phil Barley, Transport and General Workers Union regional officer, claims he has been effectively "black-balled" from Tradeteam's sites for over two years. He says: 'There has been a very positive response to the ballot.

"I have now written to the employer to arrange a meeting at anytime, and anywhere to resolve these outstanding issues."

A spokeswoman for Exel said that any site in need of extra drivers would have them recruited to ensure that contracts were fulfilled. No details have been released of any action planned by the drivers.
