Police to block alcohol sale

ESSEX POLICE IS set to voice its concerns over an application by the owner of a 40-space Waltham Abbey lorry park to sell alcohol.

GBN Charters, owner of the Skillet Hill Farm lorry park in Honey Lane, has asked Epping District Forest Council for a licence to sell alcohol, but police fear this will fuel drink-driving.

Simon Eisher, divisional licensing officer for Essex Police, tells CM that under the Licensing Act 2003, alcohol sales are not permitted at service stations and rest areas.

A council spokeswoman says the application has been opposed, so will be discussed by the licensing committee on 6 August and will be reviewed again on 3 September.

No one at GBN Charters was available for comment.
