Volkswagen has underlined its commitment to commercial vehicles with the opening of its latest purposebuilt Van Centre in Ashford, Kent.

Words: Cohn Barnett VOLKSWAGEN'S (VW) new Van Centre in Ashford is located in the town's Orbital Park business district. Costing £1.6m, the centre, which has created 20 new jobs, is owned and operated by the expanding ICH Group, which was started by Jonathon C Bischoff in 1998. The site joins the group's existing Van Centre. at Sittingbourne, as well as a number of VW car dealerships and a VW Rental outlet.

"This new Van Centre is fantastic news for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and both our current and future customers in the Ashford area," says Simon Elliott, director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. "This investment by the JCB Group and the continuing increase in market share for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles proves our vehicles and the VW brand make the most sense whatever the market conditions.

"I know Jonathan and his team will make this Van Centre a great success," he adds.

A 10-vehicle showroom fronts the new workshop operation. Currently, three bays are available, capable of handling the biggest Crafter. However, there is space to increase this to 10 as demand glows. An 1VIoT test facility is also under construction. •
