Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Have you booked your place on our 'Comply and Survive' conference? This unique event will help keep you not only profitable, but also professional and legal.

Words: Brian Weathertey The road to ruin is paved with good intentions. And there's no better intention than keeping your business profitable during one of the worst economic slumps in living memory. But how do you avoid business pressures distracting you from your 0-licence obligations? In short, how can you stay focused on staying out of court — as well as in the black?

Fortunately, Commercial Motor, its sister title Motor Transport and associated website Roadtransport.com have teamed up to deliver the Sixth Fleet Management Conference that looks at both the law and your bottom line. Our 'Comply and Survive' conference, on 21 October at Villa Park, Birmingham, provides a doubleheader that will help keep fleet managers and operators profitable, professional and legal.

Conference chairman Brian Weatherley will get the ball rolling at the morning session on compliance by introducing top transport lawyer Jonathan Backhouse, who will take delegates through the latest need-toknow road haulage legislation.

Legislation Next. John Comer. product manager for UK and Ireland at Volvo Trucks, will explain all the legislation coming out of Brussels that affects the trucks you run and buy — including the new Euro-5 emissions reg,s, vehicle stability control systems and other items planned in the European Commission's road safety programme, as well as what the latest headlamp aim tests from VOSA mean.

After a short break, we'll look at how to solve the problems of working at height and reduce accidents involving HGVs with Phil Murphy, network operations director at the Royal Mail. Murphy will be bringing along the Royal Mail's thought-provoking Safety Concept Artie ('Royal Mail accidentfree artic; CM 21 May) to provide a practical demonstration on how to keep drivers out of harm's way.

Then it's time to hear from Neil Barlow, head of enforcement at VOSA, on how the agency will be applying the law governing the Compulsory Training Directive — Driver CPC — at the roadside and in particular what VOSA expects from you as the "controlling force • * During the lunch and coffee breaks, in addition to the Royal Mail Safety Concept Artie, delegates will be able to see the latest 'ground-based' system from Moffett, which allows a driver to mount and demount a Mounty forklift from the hack of a truck or trailer, but without having to climb up ohio it.
