Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

NEARLY 100,000 commercial vehicles were recalled in the first half of 2009, according to VOSA's biannual Vehicle Safety Recalls Bulletin, with the Vauxhall Vivaro topping the list.

The main issue with the Vivaro van was a faulty parking-brake connector cable, which saw 45,330 vehicles made between January 2006 and June 2008 being recalled.

A spokesman for GM UK says: "We identified the possible fault on the Vivaro and all the customers have been notified. So far 27,234 units, or 60% of the total number of affected vehicles, have been reworked."

Just over 22,500 Mercedes-Benz Vito and Viano vans were inspected after reports that a weak sparewheel support could break, causing the floor-mounted spare to fall off.

Nissan's version of the Vivaro, the Primastar, was blighted with similar handbrake problems, de

spite the vans being assembled at different factories. A weak intermediate handbrake connector, potentially causing the brake cable to disconnect, was identified, resulting in the recall of 7,373 units.

In the HGV sector, 12,772 models from Scania's R-, P-, Tand Gseries ranges were recalled because of a steering issue, while Volvo needed to inspect 852 FI-1 and FM models due to a problem with the sliding fifth wheel.

The total recall of 93,678 vehicles from January to June 2009 is a significant increase over the preceding six-month period, which stood at just over 35,000.
