being asked to spearhead a national campaign designed to save the lives of hundreds of cyclists a year. Don't be a Space Invader, launched by the London Accident Prevention Council, urges drivers to put stickers on the back of
their lorries and on the cabs warning cyclists of the danger of getting themselves into lorry blind spots.
The impetus for the campaign was the recent death of a 15year-old cyclist in South London who became trapped in the wheels of a skip lorry as it turned left, Recent figures from the DOT show that 227 cyclists were killed or injured in similar accidents in London alone last year.
Copies of campaign materials including posters and leaflets can be obtained from the Road Safety Office at all local authority offices.
