Liverpool Transport Department £3,720 during 1953-54. The fleet consumption rate for last year was 9.152 m.p.g., against '9,097 m.p.g. during the previous year. The extended use of moulded brake facings saved £2,650.

As a result of research designed to improve operating efficiency, the department have adopted the following measures, states the general manager, Mr. W. M. Hall, in his annual report:— Extended use of moulded brake facings; alternative brushes for starters and dynamos; use of clutch-type windscreen wipers (motor defects expected to be reduced by at least 50 per cent.); new type of hub grease to reduce overheating; and use of an additive oil in the rear axle to minimize trouble with the differential.
