THE International Chamber • of Commerce has just published an interesting book, which surveys the different methods of highway administration and finance in 15 countries, these being Great Britain, U.S.A., Argentine, Portugal, France, Netherlands, Italy. Germany, French Equatorial Africa, Poland, Turkey, Ethiopia, Netherlands Fast Indies, China and Australia. These countries have been selected as being representative of present-day methods, whilst, at the same time, illustrating different stages of development in road construction and motor traffic.

A chapter is devoted to each country and: a uniform plan of description is followed. A statistical summary dealing with population, area, number of motors in circulation, and length of different categories of road is followed by a brief historical note showing the methods successfully applied in each country. • The major part of each chapter is then devoted to a description of present methods of administration and finance, figures being given of the revenue set aside for road construction and of taxes on vehicles.

The information is up to date and much of it is published for the first time. Most of the sections contain an introduction by a leading authority on highway questions, the British section being introduced by' Mr. J. Albert Thomson, J.P., president of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

The book may be obtained from the International Chamber of Commerce, 38, ,Cours Albert Ter, Paris, or from an of its national committees, for 20 francs, post included. It is published hi English. French and German editions, and runs to 174 pages.
