A LONDON OPERATOR has been ordered to pay more than £1,000 in fines and costs for the fraudulent use of a roadtax disc and for using a vehicle without insurance, Anthony Le Fevre of Hampton Road, Chingford. London pleaded not guilty to the tax disc offence when he appeared before the Epping magistrates. Anthony Ostrin, prosecuting for Vosa, told the court that Le Fevre had been driving a van that was stopped in a roadside check. Traffic examiner Anne Webb gave evidence that a valid tax disc was displayed—but it was from a different vehicle.
Le Fevre claimed the vehicle had been used by someone else and he had not checked the tax disc before taking it onto the road.
However the magistrates found him guilty, at which point Ostrin reported that Le Fevre had already pleaded guilty to using the van without insurance or MoT and with a defective tyre.
He was fined .£400 for the tax disc offence and £200 for having no insurance, with £450 costs. The magistrates imposed no separate penalties for the MoT or tyre offences.
