QPEAKING last week at the annual
general meeting of Jaguar Cars. Ltd., the chairman. Sir William Lyons, said that the substantial orders received for the Daimler Fleetline rear-engined double-decker had completely justified the decision to put it into volume production. The continually increasing proportion of tenders for new vehicles being awarded to Daimler was a matter of great satisfaction, he said; the normal frontengined double-deck bus chassis was in considerable demand among municipali ties.
Of Guy, which Jaguar bought last year, Sir William said they were doing everything they could to re-establish this once very successful business on a firm profitearning basis.
BRITISH EXPORTS DOWN
COMMERCIAL vehicle production in February, although slightly higher than in January, was substantially smaller than in February last year; exports in February, 1962, were not only lower than in January but were markedly down on last year's figures, as this table shows.
DRODUCTION of commercial vehicles
in the U.S. is running about 27 per cent, higher than a year ago. In February the General Motors Corp. produced 38,890 units, compared with 29,325 in February, 1961. Ford produced 29,985 vehicles, as against 26,843, and Dodge 8,331 units compared with 4,353 in February last year.
