Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ALTHOUGH few direct purchases of ex-British Road Services' vehicles have been made since the last issue of The Commercial Motor was published on February 10, there has been no diminution in the number of

assignments.

Substantial purchases that came to light during this period were those of Mr. W. Storey, Portare, Ackworth (63 vehicles, including seven articulated outfits, and a trailer); Mr, L. C. Hartley, 960 Scott Hall Road, Leeds (20 lorries and five trailers); Mr. S. Hughes, Leeds Itfoad, Mirfield (nine lorries and nine trailers); Tower Hill Transport Co., The Dock, Boston (13 lorries-38 tons 8 cwt.); and Mr. I. BrindleY, The Close, Sharnford, near Hinckley, Leics. (11 lorries-13 tons 18 cwt.).

In Scotland, Sutherlands of Peterhead (Road Hauliers), Ltd., transferred 46 vehicles, including seven articulated outfits (174.1 tons), and six trailers to Highland Haulage, Ltd., Inverness.

The acquisitions and assignments given below are the most recent to have been reported.

SCOTLAND

Mr. Ernest Sanderson, Bearsden, who has bought another vehicle (lf tons) has transferred one (21 tons), taken over in an earlier purchase, to Mr. David Haig, Beilshill.

Assignments have also been made as follows; a lorry (5 tons) to J. A. Mr. Waters has, in turn, had a lorry (31 tons) made over to him by Marsden Warehouses, Ltd., 38 Sandhills, Newcastle upon Tyne.

A direct purchase of an articulated tractor (2f tons) and a trailer has been made by 1-1. L. Walker, Ltd., Britannia Garage, Britannia Street, Thornaby-onTees.

Tees-Side Carriers, Ltd., Church Road, Stockton-on-Tees, have had a lorry (7 tons 6 cwt.) transferred to them by Comberhill Motors, Ltd., Olympia Garage, Ings Road, Wakefield. Tees-Side Carriers have also had a special A. licence for a lorry (5 tons 12 cwt.) revoked on the grant of an ordinary A licence for a vehicle (6 tons 9 cwt.).

Quelch Carriers, Ltd., 28 The Side, Newcastle upon Tyne, have sold a lorry (7 tons 3 cwt.) to Mr. R. Stamper, Woodside, Dearham. Maryport; and one (2 tons 19 cwt.) to Mr. J. Marshall, 4 Centurian Road, Newcastle upon Tyne.

four lorries (II tons ll cwt.) have been made over to A. S. H. Transport Services, Ltd.. 35 Coburg Street, Gateshead, by Mr. A. S. Horn, of the same address; one (8 tons 1 cwt.) to N. Kindon and Sons, Ltd., Burn Road, West Hartlepool. by Mr. S. Hughes. Leeds Road, Mirfield: one (3 tons 4 cwt.) to Messrs. Wm. Keith and Son, FellMount, Grange-over-Sands, by Mr. P. Goring, Walker Street Motors; Preston; and one (4 tons 14 cwt.) to Mr. R. Waugh, 2 Scott Street, Annan. Dumfriesshire, by Northern (Allied) Transport and Trading Co., Foster Street, Penrith. The Northern Licensing Authority has replaced two more special A licences by ordinary A licences. One, held by Messrs. Smart and Cardella. 4 Baltic Chambers, Quayside, Newcastle upon Tyne, for a lorry (2 tons 14 cwt.) has been replaced by one for 31 tons. The other, held by J. Straughan and Sons, Ltd., Lilburn Glebe, West Lilbum, Affiwick, was for a lorry (21 tons), which has now been replaced by one for 4 tons.

NORTH-WEST Mr. K. Miller. 5 Oakmere Avenue, Withnell. near Chorley, has sold two articulated vehicles (41 tons) to Messrs. Millers Motor Services, Stocks Garage, Wheelton, near Chorley; an articulated trailer to T. Nelson (Liverpool), Ltd., 11 Old Hail Street, Liverpool, 3; an articulated outfit (3 tons) and a lorry (5f tons) to Messrs. A. H. C. Transport, Heathfield, Preston Road, Coppull, near Chorley; two vehicles (31tons) to J. W. Ratcliffe and Sons, Ltd., Low Bank Road, Ashton-inMakerfield ; one (5 tons) to Mr. W. Roby, 2 Kilshaw Street. Pemberton, Wigan, and an articulated vehicle (3f tons) to Messrs. J. E. and C. H. Rooke, Islington, Tadcaster.

J. W. Ratcliffe and Sons have also taken over a lorry (3 tons) from Mr. F. P. Inman, North Lonsdale Road Garage, Ulverston, and, in turn, have transferred one (31tons) to Mr. R. J. Jones. 47 Tagus Street, Liverpool. 8.

Ackworth Transport have assigned a lorry to Mr. W. Mr. N. Beech, Hope Street, Hanky, has transferred a lorry (41 tons) to Mr. R. Johnson, 9 Bullock House Road, Harriseahead, Stoke-on-Trent; and one (4+ tons) to Shirley's Transport Co., Mount Pleasant Garage, Cellarhead, Stoke-on-Trent.

A direct purchaser, Mr. G. R. Owen, Lee Brockhurst, Shrewsbury, has taken over a lorry (31 tons).

EASTERN COUNTIES Further vehicles have been bought and transferred by Mr. V. J. Grange, 124 Bridge Street, Peterborough. Four acquired from Mr. H. Neave, Rush .Green, Langley, Hitchin, have been resold to Mr. W. Hood, Parson Drove, one (2+ tons); Ivel Transport, Ltd., 104 Bedford Road, Sandy, one (3 tons); Mr. J. Limb, Boston, one (3 tons); Mr. B. E. Allen, Towcester, one (3 tons). Two others taken over from Mr. T. W. Hodge, Kenny Villa, Kenny Road, London. S.E.14, haNe been divided between Mr. A. E. Markiffie, Gull Drove, Guyhim (24 tons) and Mr. R. W. Gray, in the East Midland Traffic Area.

Grimwade's .Transport, Ltd., 291 Hart Road, Thundersley,. have taken over two lorries (7 tons) from Whalebone Morals. Ltd., High Road, Chadwell Heath, and two . (8 tons) from Church Road Motors (Southend-on-Sea) Ltd., Hadleigh. The lorries sold to Grimwades Transport were transferred' to Church Road Motors by Mr. J. Regan, Chun Farm, Horsmonden. Another lorry (3 tons) sold to Church Road Motors by Mr. S. A. Harris, 20 Salem Road, London, E.9, has been re-assigned to Mr. A. Mansfield, West Ham.

The Eastern Licensing Authority has also authorized the assignment of a lorry (3 tons) to Mr. G. W. Peacock, Potton Road, Biggleswade, by Messrs. G. W. and D, S. Peacock, of the same address; two (5+ tons) to Nicholls and Co. (Brighton), Ltd., 100 North Road, Brighton, by Messrs. Traffic Services (C. SOUTHERN AREA

A lorry (3 tons) bought by Messrs. The Edmund Gerald Supplies, 19 and 21 Trafalgar Road, Fremantle, Southampton, has now been transferred to Mr. F. P. L. Rossi, Oxford Street, Southampton.

LONDON AND HOME COUNTIES Six lorries (181 tons) based in London have been bought by Hanson Haulage, Ltd., 31 St. John's Road, Huddersfield. Another haulage company in the northwest, Warrington Warehousing Co., 54 Market Street, Newton-k-Willows, have bought one (6 tons 14 cwt.) in London. Mr. J. Merrett, 10 Walnut Tree Road, London, SEW), has sold two lorries (2+ tons) to Mr. G. W. Ingles, 132 Tunnel Avenue, London, S.E.10, and one (3 tons) to Messrs. Cornell Transport, 41 Lennard Road, Bromley, Kent.

Other assignments authorized by the Metropolitan Licensing Authority, are those of Mr. W. E. Shelton, 290 Burdett Road, London, E.14, who has made over a lorry (3 tons 8 cwt.) to Messrs. W. H. Beer and Son, Ltd., 10 Upper Strand Street, Sandwich, have taken over a lorry (3 tons) from A. S. Neaves (Eastling Transport), Ltd., Amolds Oak Farm, Eastling, Kent. Stockley Transport have assigned a lorry (I ton 2 cwt.) to Mr. G. D. Ball, 8 Bridge Street, High Wycombe.
