Trolleybuses to Go Sooner Than Expected THE final abandonment of Darling' ton's trolleybuses is likely to take place about June of next year, which is earlier than was expected. At present, in addition to the Faverdale-Neasham route, trolleybuses work at peak hours to Brougham Street, Harrowgate Hill, for the railway works. When seven new Guy double-deckers with Gardner 5LW engines and Roe bodies are delivered next August, it will be possible to withdraw the trolleybuses which are retained for this peak-hour working.

When conversion is complete, the undertaking will have a fleet of 48 vehicles, all Guys with 5LW engines. Good results are being obtained with this type. Averaged over the fleet, fuelconsumption rates were for December, 1955, January and February, 1956, respectively: 11.5, 11.6 and 11.55 m.p.g. The undertaking will show a profit of about £15,000 this year and probably of about £2,000 next year if there are no further wages increases.

It is hoped in August to begin the use of Ultimate six-unit ticket machines.
