MR. R. II. MARSHALL, who for many years has been assistant engineer to the Maidstone and District Motor Services, Ltd., has been appointed acting engineer to the company.

MR. J. LUNN, acting works engineer at the Charlton works of London Transport, has retired after 44 years' association with passenger transport. In 1936, be became assistant works engineer at the Board's tram and trolleybus works at Charlton, and in August, 1940, was made an officer of the Board. Following Mr. Lunn's retirement, _MR. J. SCROFTELD has been appointed to the substantive position of works engineer (Charlton).

SIR ERNEST SIMON, governing director of the group of Simon companies, was recently presented with a portrait painted by Mr. T. C. Dugd,ale, R.A,, on the occasion of his 65th birthday. The presentation was made by Mr. Jack Mallard, the shop stewards' convenor, on behalf of the works and staffs of the Simon group, coMprising Henry. Simon, Ltd.; Simon-Carves. Ltd.; Henry Simon (Engineering Works), Ltd.; Turbine Gears, Ltd.; and Tyresoles, Ltd.

MR. D. B. Cor.a.s;rr has been appointed general works manager of the Speke factory, near Liverpool, which was recently leased to the Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd„ "lay the Board of Trade, for peace-time production. The company will take over in July next. Mr. Collett joined the Dunlop concern from Bishop's Stortford College in 1026, and took its staff training course ; he is now the company's chief labour officer. He is a member of the National Joint, Industrial Council for the rubbermanufacturing industry and of its Trade Board, as well as of the Trade Board for the rubber-reclamation industry.
