Commercial Motor this week launches a high-visibility sticker campaign to drive home the value of the road transport industry to the Great British Public.

Inside this edition of CM you'll find a free vinyl sticker with the simple message -People Buy—Trucks Supply/. reminding motorists and consumers of the vital role played by HGVs in the country's supply chain. In the centre of this issue you'll also find a pull-out poster to display in your office or wherever you can make a statement about our industry.

Road hauliers' poor public perception is cited by a number of CM readers in recent correspondence as affecting their business, with ignorance seen as a key factor in the industry's less-thanfavourable image. Over 8040 of all goods carried in the UK go by road and HGVs are frequently blamed for causing conges tion—even though there are only 413,000 CVs compared with 23 million cars.

According to one major supermarket, what's delivered into a store in a single artic leaves In 200 cars. Vital areas of British industry and society depend heavily on trucks including agriculture, healthcare and food distribution.

CM's sticker campaign has already gained the support of the freight Transport Association, Head of external affairs Geoff Dossetter says: The Importance of British trucks and drivers is not appreciated by the general public, who take for granted the supply of the goods which they rely on at home and at work every day of their life. This admirable campaign by CMshould help drive the message home and is welcomed by the FTA."

The Road Haulage Association has also praised the move. Chief executive Roger King branded it an "absolutely excellent initiative", adding: "We can't do enougi improve the industry's Image. We nee( remind people that if they eat It, watc or touch it, it probably came by truck."
