the chairman, Mr. R. S. Horlock, announced that a collection would be taken to aid the funds of the local trades council. Referring to the activities of this body, he mentioned o petition of protest which was organized when, a few months age, the East Kent Road Car Co., Ltd., applied for a fares increase.
He claimed that this was instrumental in the Licensing Authority's rejection of the application. Now that the company again wished to advance its charges, another petition would be drawn up.
A member of the audience jumped to his feet. "Mr. Chairman," he asked, "can you tell me how the bus companies can be expected to pay fair wages to their drivers and conductors when the public won't pay the proper fares?" [Cries of "Hear, hear !
