Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

While on a weekend break in the Lake District I picked up a brochure detailing the closure of the A556 link road.

This surprised me for the following reasons:

• As a member of both the Manchester and Altrincham

Boards of Commerce, I had not received any notification of the closure; • As a member of the Road Haulage Association and the Despatch Association I had also not received notification;

• As the managing director of a local transport firm directly affected by the closure I had not been consulted or notified;

• On Thursday 21September I witnessed first hand the chaos this closure was causing. There were insufficient signs, and there appeared to be no reason why single-lane traffic and traffic lights could not have operated with advised alternative routing. Nor any reason why the work could not have been split into two sections (with the lights at Mere Golf club). This would have reduced the diversions for every single driver, saving hundreds of hours and miles and substantial pollution.

Whoever is responsible for thls fiasco should be sacked. Clive A ChurrInvard,

Oash Xpress, Attrincharn, Cheshire.
