I really do think that we have lost the plot with regard to the fuel protests.
I, like many other hauliers, have spent the past two years trying to convince the government that we face unfair competition in the haulage industry from our European competitor& We've lobbied for fuel rebates for essential users to bring us in line with our European competitors.
We've lobbied for VED reductions to bring us in fine with European vehicle tax to be offset with a vignette system.
When I joined the protest at a Leeds fuel depot I was protesting for a fair deal on fuel for UK hauliers. I wanted the government to take the problems within the haulage industry seriously, listen to us, and come up with some positive help.
But now it seems that we want to champion the cause for all motorists.
There is little doubt that the government could give the haulage industry the concessions that it needs. But there is no way that the government can reduce fuel costs for everyone without imposing other taxes to compensate, so we'd be no better off.
