Cutting the licence of Carmarthen timber haulier Desmond Douche from three vehicles to two, Welsh Traffic Commissioner David Dixon said that he was "firing a shot across his bows".
Vehicle examiner Keith John told a Port Talbot disciplinary inquiry that the two vehicles and trailers operated had picked up one immediate and three delayed prohibitions in recent months, Including one showing a significant maintenance failure.
Appearing for Douche, Ray Saitiel said that many of the problems were
caused by rough terrain. A recommendation from the vehicle examiner that the period between
inspections be reduced from six weeks to four had been implemented.
Douche said he intended to ensure that his first public inquiry would also be his last. He undertook to contract out his maintenance and to make full use of roller brake test facilities. Ho said that he had been in the industry for 35 years, the last 10 in timber haulage, and he had not had any previous problems.
Cutting the licence, the IC said that the action he was taking would not have any detrimental effect on the business. His intention was simply to prevent from undertaking further expansion.
