• Following increases in road freight, goods vehicles will produce up to 80% of all nitrogen oxide (N0x) from road traffic by 2005, warns The Financial Times Automotive Report on the Future of Freight Transport in the European Union. CO2 emissions from road freight will also rise, it says, despite the efforts of manufacturers to improve fuel efficiency.
The report, which monitored the views of leading business figures, forecasts a shift in freight from rail and water to road.
