Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• EU moves to outlaw spurious brake linings have run into problems. ECE Regulation 90 is designed to ensure that all replacement CV brake linings meet or exceed the original typeapproved specification.

Legislation has been already been passed for cars (which replace the complete shoe and lining) and the EC has been considering how to widen these to include truck linings for attachment to shoes. The problem is understood to have arisen from some vehicle manufacturer's unwillingness to release the specifications of the type approved linings.
