Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Christian Salvesen has launched a multi-million-pound recycling service for Tesco in a move that will cut the number of trucks running empty and save the supermarket .E12m a year.

The nine recycling units, which will be set up close to Tesco's composite distribution centres, will take 160,000 tonnes of cardboard and 10,000 tonnes of plastic from Tesco's stores every year. They will also wash thousands of re-usable trays which will replace the use of another 50,000 tonnes of cardboard a year.

By April Christian Salvesen will be employing some 700 staff on the fiveyear contract.

The new Middleton centre will be joined by similar sites at Hinkley, I larlow, Snodland, Didcot, Chepstow, Doncaster, Southampton and Livingston. Tesco's own vehicles, as well as contractor's trucks, will return from store deliveries loaded with cardboard and shrinkwrap plastic that will be consolidated before being sent on to regional processing mills.

Ken Allison, managing director of Christian Salvesen distribution's Food Logistics division, says Tesco contractors such as Hays Distribution, Exel Logistics and Wincanton will not be held up by visiting the recycling sites. "At Middleton we're dealing with 700 vehicle movements a day and we're turning each one round in 10 minutes," he says.
