Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

From John Moon, Paris, Wednesday.

A LTHOUGH in a complete state of

confusion within 24 hours of the appointed opening time, this year's Paris Salon promises to be more interesting than most of its predecessors in that the floor area allocated to the commercial vehicle exhibits is noticeably greater and the international flavour decidedly more pronounced, manufacturers from eleven countries being represented.

British makers include A.E.C., B.M.C., Bedford, Commer, Dodge, Karrier. Leyland, Rover, Scammell and Thames. and it is to be hoped that the majority of our exhibitors fare better than Leyland Motors who have had a Hippo 32-ton tractive unit " lost " en route by the combined effort§ of British and French Railways, and a 2-tonner damaged in transit. The Hippo is now not expected to arrive by opening day.

It is not expected that any of the non French exhibitors will be showing new designs except for the Italian O.M. Lupetto 2.5-tonner with a new cab displayed by Uric, their French distributors. and a newt-ton version of the Commer. described on this page; but Unie themselves have two new goods models. whilst Berliet are to make a feature of a new 100-passenger integral bus and a heavy-duty long-distance goods-haulage model. An unusual exhibit is a Hotchkiss-Herwaythorn 2/3-ton 4 x 4 with Dunlop Pneuride air suspension at both axles, whilst trolleybus enthusiasts who were disappointed at Earls Court can take heart from the presence of two such vehicles here. And quite a stir has been created by the arrival of a Bernard rigid eight-wheeled goods vehicle with air suspension at all axles.

A fully illustrated report will be published in next week's issue,
