CEVA LOGISTICS says it has improved its truck utilisation by 17% this year by conducting operations through a centralised control tower and implementing tougher management controls on operational performance.
Leigh Pomlett, executive vicepresident UK and Ireland for Ceva, says: The recession has taught us to operate leaner and more efficiently, and, by running our fleet through a centralised control tower in Irlam in Lancashire and applying stricter controls on site utilisation, we've been able to make these improvements.
"Our trucks are working a lot harder than they were previously and there's more double shifting. We've downsized our fleet during the recession, so even though there's slightly fewer trucks than before, they are spending more time on the road carrying more loads."
Ceva believes that improving truck and site utilisation has helped it take on customers requiring last-minute deliveries.
