Lease of life
• Two new guides to the leasing industry have been published, offering managers a breakdown of the industry from UK and European perspectives.
The Leasing Handbook looks at the growth of leasing in the UK and includes sections on finance and operating leasing and the latest methods of funding leasing. Leasing in Europe is a comparative study of leasing in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden and the UK, focusing on differences in procedures, regulations and legislation and the trading status of leasing companies.

Building blocks
• BSI has published a guide to a new British Standard for calculating the reliability of systems and components.
BS5760 is a standard method of developing block diagrams to evaluate the reliability of anything from a simple component to a complex industrial process or, for example, the operation of a workshop or a fleet.
The guide explains the essential preliminary facts that must be established and gives a step-by-step prodedure for developing block diagrams, and then using the diagrams to calculate the reliability of the system.
