Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Mr Nicholas Ridley, joint Parliamentary Under Secretary, DoE, announced on Wednesday that immediate discussions are to take place with oil and delivery companies to consider methods of more accurate measurement of fuel and domestic oil deliveries from road tankers.

Mr Ridley said that, following representations from petrol retailers and local weights and measures authorities, the use of correctly calibrated flowmeters should be made rather than the conventional dipstick.

In certain specified cases, it is anticipated that dipsticks will still be allowed.
