Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ASUGGESTION that there should have been liaison between the East Kilbride Development Corporation and the county council on the question of providing transport facilities for the new town of Kilbride, was made by the Scottish Licensing Authority, Mr. W6 F. Quin, in Glasgow, last week, when the Central S.M.T. Co., Ltd., applied for permission to run a school transport service.

Lanark County Council objected on the ground that the roads were only 18 ft. wide. , The corporation, said Mr. Quin, had not provided for bus routes in their plans. In other areas, the Authority had allowed buses to run over similar routes, and he took the view that the function of a local authority, when they offered objections, was to findthe safest route for buses.

He thought he was bound to reject the county council's objections. In the circumstances, it would be inflicting a great hardship on people if he said " No " simply because the roads were only 18 ft. wide.

The application was also opposed by J. Laurie and Co.

Adjourning the hearing, Mr, Quin suggested that they should meet the applicants to see whether some arrangement could he reached.
