Qo Monday, the Court of Appeal agreed to expedite the hearing of the appeal by Birmingham Corporation against Mr. Justice.Vaisey's decision in the Chancery Division on the corporation's scheme of free travel for old-age pensioners.
Sir Raymond Evershed, Master of the Rolls, said that the case would be taken at the end of the list of Chancery cases at present being heard.
Mr. Harold Lightman, for the corporation, said that more than 20 other municipalities were interested in the case. About 40,000 people were directly concerned. in Birmingham alone. The other authorities interested in the matter represented nearly a tenth of the population of England.
