Raybestos Brake Lining.

The brake lining known by this name and marketed by Brown Bros., Ltd., Great Eastern Street, London, E.C., needs little introduction to our readers ; many

users and manufacturers can testify as to its lasting qualtities and efficient working. This braking fabric is composed of two fine strands of hardened brass wire, with three strands of asbestos, so interwoven, during the process of manufac turet that each cord forms a unit in the structure. A special method of production ensures a remarkable degree of flexibility with Raybestos, which the maker claims is not possessed by various other materials now on the market. As a result of its flexibility the fabric can easily be fitted to brake bands or cones.

By using this class of material the fierceness and chattering often set up in the metal-to-metal form of brake should be eliminated, and the vehicle as a consequence be steadily and quickly pulled up without undue wear and tear on the transmission mechanism.

Raybestos is claimed to be made of the finest quality materials throughout, and it is waterproof, Whilst there is no danger of it becoming charred in consequence of overheating. The maker points out that Raybestos should be 5.6 fixed in a manner which ensures the rivet heads being well countersunk below the surface of the lining ; this can be done without impairing the strength of the fabric.

The initial outlay when purchasing Raybestos is slightly more than that for some makes of brake linings, but the many advantages it possesses over a number of other fabrics of this class render it the most economical of all, particularly as it eliminates the necessity of relining brakes frequently and assures their efficient action for a very long period.

Many tests have been carried out with Raybestos under actual working conditions, and the results fully substantiate the claims made by the maker.

The New Henley Solid Tire, It will interest our readers to hear of an experienced newcomer into the solid-tire trade, namely, W. T. Henley's Telegraph Works, Co., Ltd. Blom

field Street, London E.C. Although die company has only recently commenced marketing this band tire, the concern has carried out a, systematic series of tests of Henley solid tires for the past two years. The tests have been undertaken against examples of other well-known makes of tires, and the results have proved most favourable, we learn. As is well known, the company has had an established experience of over 50 years in the treatment of rubber, which should help the concern to hold a foremost position in the solid tire industry.

As will be seen from the illustration we reproduce, the tire is of clean cross-sectional design, which the maker claims to be scientifically correct. On the company's own vehicles, which are operated between London, Gravesend and "Woolwich, a variety of bad roads is encountered, and the Henley tires have given average mileage results over these roads, which compare most favourably with other makes.

The Henley Co. is essentially an all-British concern, but the management points out in a communication to us that no orders are sought under the shelter of patriotism but purely upon the merit of the company's production.
