GLOUCESTERSHIRE-BASED distribution company CM Downton has brought in 17 new Renault Premium 6x2 tractors for its Pets at Home contract. The deal, with Renault Trucks dealer Allports Group, is worth more than £1m.

Steve Travis, contracts manager for CM Downton, says the vehicles’ excellent fuel consumption, reliability and the relationship forged with Allports Group underpinned the order. “With Allports’ high standard of service, we look forward to a long and successful partnership,” he says.

The final 10 Premium 460.25 trucks to arrive will replace older vehicles, and makes the 35-vehicle Pets at Home fleet exclusively Renault.

Allports Group MD Mark Sanders says the deal is a substantial contract win. “As well as the vehicles and maintenance agreement, we will be supplying driver training and an Opti-Fuel manager package, which provides detailed information on all the aspects of vehicle and driver performance, ensuring costeffective operation throughout the contract’s term,” he says.

In May 2010, the haulier ordered 86 new trailers for its Pets at Home contract from trailer and bodybuilder Cartwright Group.
