Keywords : Tachograph

A WIGAN INTERNATIONAL haulier whose drivers committed drivers' hours and tachograph offences on the Continent failed in a bid to surrender his licence before it could be revoked.

Simon Silcock, trading as Simon Silcock International Haulage, with a licence for four vehicles and four trailers, had been called before the North Western Traffic Commissioner Beverley Bell.

Silcock had operated three attic fridge units mainly to Spain and Portugal. A check of his tachograph records revealed daily driving and daily rest offences committed by three drivers while in Europe. In one case an attempt had been made to alter the traces on a chart. A number of charts were missing, with a total unrecorded distance of-1,965km.

Silcock said he had ceased trading in January and wished to surrender his licence.

He did not at present wish to go back into transport. He had produced the missing tachograph charts at the magistrates court and he was given an absolute discharge for failing to produce charts.

Revoking the licence, the TC said it was too late in the day to accept its surrender. If Silcock decided he wanted to come back into the industry she would personally deal with the application.
