AFIER READING the report headed "Time on your side" (CM 21 April), I would like to comment from a driver's point of view.

Ifind it very touching that Mr Hardwick can put my mind at rest knowing I can still be on duty for a 75-hour week What other professional is expected to be on duty for 75 hours just to make a living? Is it any wonder that there is a shortage of skilled drivers?

Until drivers are paid and treated like professionals, especially with the ever increasing legislation they need to comply with, the industry can only expect the situation to deteriorate. R Stanitord Kingskerswell, Devon
