James Grant and Co (West) Ltd, retail niture store operators, appeared under :Eon 69 at Glasgow on Thursday last ek, its second such appearance in four mths and was curtailed by one vehicle :flout date. In evidence it was stated that • ant had instructed garages in Glasgow d Inverness, and elsewhere, to maintain furniture delivery vehicles to a very high ndard with monthly inspections and pectionplus servicing every two months, earlier if required.

Service managers from Wylie's Ltd of asgow, and Rossleigh, of Inverness, ie evidence of having inspected and viced two delivery units which were the iject some three weeks later of GV9 thibitions.

New service contracts had been entered o following the firm's earlier appearance show cause. There had been some agreement between the servicing garages the inspectors but the LA, Mr A. B. nie, pointed out that it had been open to service stations to have the prohibitions ived on appeal and that this had not been le. It was then indicated that the GV9 ■ hibitions were not really disputed and nes Grant indicated that they were still y much concerned to be completely ctive and would take any advice offered. Mr Birnie said that the firm had been 'ore him as recently as December 1971 h four immediate and five delayed ihibitions. He had been lenient in tailing two vehicles for two months. q could imagine his horror in seeing so soon two immediates, one with six defects and the other with nine. The vehicles had been on the road in a dangerous condition and things had not been put right as they should have been. If the firm could not keep vehicles in proper condition the Commissioners had powers to take away licences completely. Whatever the paper they were filling in, the results were bad and he felt he had been taken for a "softie". He would curtail the licence by one vehicle as from May 6 without naming a period since he had no confidence that what he had been told would work out in practice.
