Do you want to comment on any of the stories in Commercial Mot.),? Does someone in the industry deserve a pat on the back—or a public dressing down? Steady. Eddie

Irefer to the TV programme Truckers screened recently. For the benefit of HGV drivers who cannot get Channel 5 yet, I feel compelled to let you know that Eddie Stobart thinks those of us not forced to wear a tie for our work duties are all tramps.

The Collins Dictionary definition of this is: "A person who travels about on foot, living by begging or doing casual work."

Well, Mr Stobart, you might have 700 trucks and be worth £20m, but when we get done we can go home to the wife and kids. Until today you were just another haulier working for 2%

profits, but now you have accused the rest of the industry on national TV of being low-life. I think you owe us all an apology through the pages of Commercial Motor.

You cannot force your cartel onto owner-drivers just yet, and I'll bet a good few thousand of us would have liked to have been sitting across the table from you when the recording was made.

I feel your comment is without foundation and, had it been made specifically, could be libel.

Joe Walker,

Kirkby Parks, Selston, Nottingham.
