• A new overnight guaranteed delivery service between Newcastle and London begins on Monday. It is to be operated by Hilton Transport Services from its depot at Team Valley Estate, Gateshead. The company is to supply a collection and delivery service at each end of the run. Packages will be grouped at Gateshead into unit loads in Freightliner containers and broken down at the HTS groupage depot in South Lambeth Road, London.
Customers who deliver their own goods to the North-East depot can do so until 4 pm for delivery in London next day. Goods collected by the company have to be available by 2 pm.
Delivery zones in London are calculated in 5-mile stages from Charing Cross and subcharges are being applied for dock and airport deliveries. The company's rate card offers a reduced surcharge for these deliveries if the goods are delivered to their premises three days before ships close for traffic.
