Mr, C. MORTON LOMA.X, managing director of Dodge Brothers (Britain), Ltd., and Chrysler Motors, Ltd., has resigned from the board of directors of both these companies.

MR. L. K. EVERITT has been appointed a director of Edgar Allen and Co., Ltd., the steel-manhfacturing concern, of Sheffield. He is the son of Mr. C. K. Everitt, chairman of the company, and is a member of the Iron and Steel Institute, an experienced metallurgist and an able organizer.

Ma. A. T. PRIDDLE, traction engineer of the Associated Equipment Co., Ltd., left England on Wednesday for New York and, later, for Montreal, where he will be present when the seven A.E.C.-English Electric sixwheeled trolleybuses, ordered by the Montreal Tramways Co. (which were described in our issue for rast week), are officially placed in service, Mr. Priddle will return to England in five weeks' time.

Messrs. Holdsworth and Hanson, who control some 17 goods-carrying concerns, operating in the region of 800 vehicles, have noW centralized their purchasing arrangements for all companies, and have appointed a chief engineer to standardize engineering procedure throughout the whole group. MR. C. BANKS, in addition to' acting as chief engineer, will control the purchasing department from offices at Bradford. He has had a wide experience in the road-transport industry, and has been associated with both manufacturers and operating concerns.

MR. G. E. A. DISTURNAL, until recently with the Western National Omnibus Co., Ltd., has been appointed chief engineer of BoutsTillotson Transport, Ltd., which is the largest of the companies controlled by Messrs. Holdsworth and Hansoe. LORRY EXCHANGED FOR SMALL TRAILER.

It is easy to take away a licence, but difficult to restore it, said Mr. H. Riches, Northern Scotland Licensing Authority, when Mr. Robert Wood, of Thornton, offered to exchange a licence for a 81-ton motor vehicle for one for a 10-cwt. trailer, to be attached to a private car. Mr. Wood said that he appreciated the position, but the 'trailer would meet all his needs.

To safeguard the interests of his client, Mr. Wood's representative suggested that the weight of the trailer be increased to a ton, the licence being granted accordingly.

Municipal Haulage Prices.

Friern Barnet Urban District Council has accepted the tenders of Mr. John Walker for the hire of a 30-cwt. lorry at 32s. 6d. per day and a 2-ton lorry at 35s. per day, and of W. E. and G. Lawrence, Ltd., for a 3-ton lorry at 37s. 6d, per day, for 12 months.

Stoke Newington Borough Council has accepted the tender of Robert Deards, Ltd., for the hire of a tipping lorry and driver at El. 14s. 9d per day, or 4s. 6d. per hour.

Sand and Bricks in Sidecar. • The necessity of a builder carrying sand and bricks in his motorcycle sidecar, because his haulier could not provide him with transport, was referred to at Leicester, last week, when the haulier applied for permission to

acquire another vehicle. The applicant, Mrs. A. M. Biddle, of Kirkby Mallory, near Market Bosworth, was

granted her application. She stated that the builder in question had had to stand off his workmen at times, because she was quite unable to supply the transport that was necessary to meet his requirements. WHY HAULIERS DO NOT LODGE . OBJECTIONS.

The suggestion that certain firms were always ready to write, supporting applications by hauliers for additional vehicles, and that they penalized objecting hauliers, was made by Mr. J. H. Stirk, East Midland Licensing Authority, at Leicester, last week. " It has been put to me that hauliers do not lodge objections because, if they do, an applicant will go to certain firms and the objectors will get no more business from those firms. Hauliers have told me that," said Mr. Stirk.
