Bedford haulage firm closes doors after 28 years...

ROGERS OF BEDFORD has put its haulage business into administration, with the loss of 25 jobs.

After 28 years in the haulage sector, boss Jonathan Rogers explains: "The closure has come about because of huge diesel costs, and the customers are feeling the pinch. There just comes a point from a business point of view where you just say this isn't sensible."

According to a former employee, Russ Goff, the closure on 23 May was predicted by staff at least two weeks beforehand.

Rogers informs CM that most of its approximately 25 tractor units, 60 trailers and two rigids will probably go to auction sometime this month.

John Dickinson. joint administrator for Berg Kaprow Lewis (BKL), says there is "limited interest" in purchasing assets, and that while creditors will get a return, it is unlikely to be in full.
