This traffic study had the participatio of nearly all members of the E.C.M.1 and its results have led the Council Ministers to ask that the survey be con tinued to cover the period 1965-75. Th report also states that, to clarify invest ment policy, a survey of passenger traw port was begun in 1963; already th forecast is that the -number of mote vehicles will, on average, at least doubl in the period 1960-70. This survey, to( will be continued to cover 1965-75.
Although the network of Europea motor roads increased in mileage fror 2.769 km. in 1953 to 6,712 km. in 196 (an average gain of 358 km., or 222 riffle; annually) the report concludes that th rate of construction will have to b stepped up in the next few years if th development is to keep pace with th rapid growth of road traffic.
