Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AT the Bath and West Show, at Neath, there was exhibited a new addition to the range of medium. powered wheeled tractors available for the farmer. This is the Pacemaker, made by the Massey-Harris Co., Trafford Park, Manchester, and it is rated at 17 drawbar h.p., with 27 11.p. on the belt.

With a 3k-in. by 5,1-in. four-cylindered engine running at 1,200 r.p.m., the machine delivers the extra power needed comfortably to handle a threefurrow plough under heavy land conditions. The valves are in the head and the cylinder sleeves are renewable.

The transmission is of the selective sliding-gear type, all gears being carburized and hardened, and the choice of ratios marks a definite advance in design. The special feature is a high fourth speed, giving a travelling rate of over 8 m.p.h. This ratio is intended to -be used mainly for travelling from one job :to another.

The three working ratios give speeds of 2.4, 3.3 and 4.1 m.p.h, respectively, and should cover all field requirements. Drawbar pulls on these ratios are given as 3,600 lb., 2,650 lb. and 2,000 lb. respectively. The weight, with steel wheel equipment, is in the region of 33 cwt.

The price, complete with power takeoff, pulley and road bands, is £260.

The exhibition of motor vehicles andimplements at the Show, which concluded last Saturday, constituted a re cord. Almost every type of motor required in agriculture was on view. Business was said to be good, and the attendance, at 63,469, was a record.
