PARKINSON BUY DUMP TRUCKS: Seven Aveling-Barford SN 35-ton dump trucks with Torqrnatic transmissions have been bought by Sir Lindsay Parkinson and Co. Ltd., for opencast mining operations near Leeds. The order is worth almost £125,000 and deliveries are already taking place. £300,000 ORDER FOR ENGINES: Recent orders for A.E.C. automotive diesel engines (Ow worth £300,000. A total of 520 units is involved, the largest single order being from the French vehicle makers, Etablissentents Witteme, for 250 AV.690 200 b.h.p. engines. Twenty engines have been ordered by an Italian manufacturer for testing in prototype chassis and most of the remaining engines have been ordered by U.K. chassis makers. Dodge Bros. (Great Britain) Ltd., and Guy Motors (Europe) Ltd., have both ordered 105 and Seddon Diesel Vehicles Ltd.. have ordered 34_ ORDER COMPLETED: The final shipment of A.E.C. Regal Mk. VI single-decker buses in the £1.4m. order for 150 for the city of Montevideo has been made.

FOUR MORE FOR HOME COUNTIES: Home Counties Transport Co. Ltd., Minoan, Essex, which specializes in the distribution of periodicals throughout the U.K.. have ordered another four A.E.C. Mercury tractive units. They will be used with Dyson Four-wheels-in-line serni-trailers.

C.K.D. BUS FRAMES FOR ULSTER: Ulster Transport Authority has ordered another 18 single-decker hut frames from Metal Sections Ltd., Oldbury, Birmingham. Fifty-five similar frames were supplied earlier this year.

LEIGH ORDERS MORE RENOWNS: Another five A.E.C. Renown double-decker buses have been ordered by Leigh Corporation. These are in addition to four chassis of the same type ordered last year by the Corporation, which are now being bodied by East Lancashire Coach Builders Ltd.

SCAMMELLS ORDERED FOR SIERRA LEONE: The Port Authority of Sierra Leone has ordered a Scammell Scarab 6-ton tractive unit and two special Scammell 10-ton extendible-wheelbase coal-carrying semi-trailers for 40-ft. lengths of pine. The units will be used in the port of Freetown.

FIRST ORDER BY FRENCH COMPANY: Goods vehicle chassis Worth £200,000 make up the first order placed with the Leyland Group by the recently formed Anglo-French company, Hotchkiss-Leyland S.A. The company was formed last month by Leyland Motors and Hotchkiss-Erandt and the first order calls for 64 twoand three-axled chassis. These will be built by Leyland and

• Albion and will be shipped in C.K_D. form for reassembly with a number of Frenchmade components in the Hotchkiss-Brandt factories.

Closed for Holidays: The Lancashire factories of Leyland Motors Ltd. will close for the annual summer holidays from Friday night. July 19. until Monday morning. August 5.Albion Motors will close from Friday midday, July 12. until Monday morning, July 29. But emergency service facilities will be maintained by Leyland's Chorley service department and Albion's service department at Yoker.

Take-over : The Arlington Motor Co. Ltd. of Enfield. Middlesex, has taken over the business of Parsons and Parsons (Garages) Ltd. of Harlow.

N.E. Tenninal Opened: Total Oil's new £175,000 Middlesbrough terminal was opened on Tuesday by Mr. George Chetwynd, director of the North Eastern development council. The terminal will provide a comprehensive fuel service for industry in the North East and a valuable contribution to its growth.

New Development: S. L. Davis, the wellknown Gloucestershire hauliers, opened a service station and vehicle showrooms at Cinderford, Gloucestershire, last Friday. The company is a distributor for MercedesBenz commercial vehicles in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, South Worcestershire and Monmouthshire. The new development covers about an acre of land near the headquarters of the parent haulage company's premises.
