A N important step in the continued .r1 expansion. of Hepworth and Grandage Ltd., the well-known manufacturers of components for internal combustion engines, was the opening by Lord Hailsham last Friday of the new piston-ring factory at Sunderland. The factory is built on a 22-acre site, with a working area in excess of 250,000 sq. ft., and is part of the current £10m. expansion scheme of Associated Engineering Ltd.

The new Sunderland site allows longterm planning for expansion, and the first phase, now opened, is a self-contained piston-ring production unit employing 450 people. It is estimated that production will have increased to one million piston rings per week by 1964, providing work for 1,000 people.
