I N a written judiment last week, the Transport Tribunal dismissed the appeal by Hat and Garment Northern Deliveries against the refusal of the North Western Licensing Authority to grant a two-vehicle B licence to carry hats and garments between Manchester and Glasgow and return. (See The Commercial Motor, June 14).

The Tribunal said that from the evidence it was apparent that there were facilities available for the carriage of hats, caps and garments from the Manchester area to Glasgow, but no haulier at present offered a 24-hour service, which the appellants had been asked by customers to provide. The Tribunal was not satisfied that it was in the public interest to licence more vehicles merely to provide a 24-hour service, having regard to the goods to be carried.

• Referring to the " surprise " witness, Mr. P. A. Mumford, the Tribunal said that after hearing his evidence—which was given very fairly—it came to the conclusion that it did not in any 'way support the suggestion that Mi. Kearn had been guilty of any discreditable conduct.
