MEETING on Tuesday, the national council of the Traders Road Transport Association was unanimous in the view that access roads to East Anglian ports were inadequate. Expansion of Continental trade had brought about considerable increase in traffic using these ports and the Association's highways committee was asked to take all possible steps to press for action.
Mr. J. W. Bannard, chairman of the international committee, reported on meetings in Europe and made particular reference to recent first-hand experience of the severe taxation levied on ownaccount transport in West Germany.
The survey committee reported to the council that considerable attention had been given to the pending Government licensing inquiry. There was a strong possibility that the T.R.T.A. would be called to give evidence and the committee was preparing the Association's ease.
