THE £5.50 weekly wage increase established for Scottish haulage drivers is continuing to be accepted by trades union negotiators in other parts of the country.
Transport and General Workers' Union representatives in the Metropolitan and SouthEast area have accepted a deal which increases the £96.50 basic rate for 32.5 tonne lorries to £102.
The 38-tonne rate rises from £102 to £107.50, and overnight subsistence is up from £11 to £11.75. Sick pay is from £25 to £30. Trades union negotiators have also formally accepted the £5.50 increases offered in Kent and Sheffield (CM, December 15, 1984).
Drivers employed by companies which work from the Birmingham Containerbase have rejected a £5.50 offer and are pressing for a £6 increase. They plan to meet this weekend if the employers do not arrange another meeting with TGWU negotiators.
