• Transport Minister John Peyton is coming under increasing pressure to compel foreign lorries to carry reflector plates.
Mr Peter Trew, Tory MP for Dartford, has tabled a Commons question (for January 24) asking why he does not propose to apply the same regulations to foreign vehicles as to British lorries.
"When we have gone to the trouble of carrying out research and requiring reflectors to be fitted to our vehicles it is nonsense for lorries to come in from overseas without them," said Mr Trew.
