Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

connection with the erection of small farm sheds—with a simple hoist mounted on it. We want a replacement vehicle with, say, a 5-ton load capacity with a platform length of not less than lift but no more than 13ft 6in. as we have to get into very tight corners.

We have looked at the new Ford range but there does not seem to be a suitable model within these dimensions. Could you suggest a suitable make?

AWe presume from your letter that you are looking for a forward control vehicle as your main requirement will be short overall length and not just a shaft platform.

A study of specifications of currently available models suggests that you will have to consider a chassis in the tipper category. We are surprised that you have not found a current Ford of the right dimension as the D500 with 10ft wheelbase has a dimension of 13ft 10in, from the back of the cab to the end of the frame—only 4in, over your maximum.

If 13ft 6in, is your absolute limit then I can find only two suitable models: The Austin/ Morris FJ 5-tonner with 9ft 3in. wheelbase which has a platform base of 11ft 3.5in. and the Commer VB with 9ft 7in. wheelbase which accommodates 5-ton loads and where this dimension is 12ft 3in.
