Handling, c/o S. J. Noel Brown and Co. Ltd., 3 Dean Trench Street, London, SW1, comprises corporate members—companies, institutions, nationalized industries and trade unions. It has produced a number of study group reports on subjects relating to materials handling and containerization.

The Institute of Materials Handling, St. Ives Road, Maidenhead, has a membership, largely professional, of over 3,000. With the help of industry and the Ministry of Technology IMH has established a research fellowship at the College of Aeronautics, Cranfield. IMH works closely with technical educational establishments.

The Federation of Associations of Materials Handling Manufacturers (FAM I-f M ), Glen House, Stag Place, London, SW1, links four bodies: British Industrial Truck Association (BITA); Mechanical Handling Engineers' Association I M H EA) Lifting Equipment Manufacturers' Association (LEMA) and the Association of Crane Makers (ACM).
