Quick tyre inflator

LATEST products from Pneumatic Components are the Portair Meter and a portable test unit.

The Portair Meter is a portable tyre inflator with built-in 0.21 cu.ft. capacity air reservoir and connector hose. It enables quick tyre inflation to be carried out anywhere and overcomes the problem of trailing hoses.

The portable test unit is a lightweight unit for checking the gauges of tyre inflation equipment. It weighs 11.251b and consists of an air receiver with large diameter master gauge built into the top. For use, the tyreinflator connector is applied to a valve and the test unit inflated to the required pressure. The inflator gauge can then be checked against the master gauge.

Made by: Pneumatic Components Ltd., Eyre Street, Sheffield I.

Prices: Portair meter, £29 10s; portable test unit, £22 10s.

THE TYPE 748 Handtool from Avdel Ltd. enables users of the concern's Nutsert threaded inserts to place them quickly and efficiently without an external power supply.

The only method of placing Nutserts previously has been by pneumatic tools so the new tool will extend the range of application, The tool weighs only 14oz and is 12in, long.

Avdel Nutserts are a type of blind anchor-nut insert. They can be placed from one side only into blind holes, tubes and square sections and they are already used in many industries including vehicle-body building.

To use the Type 748 tool, the operator threads a Nutsert onto the drive-screw and places it into a pre-drilled hole, holding the barrel of the tool firmly with one hand while rotating the handle in a clockwise direction with the other. This causes the tapered section of the Nutsert to shear and run up into its shell, When a marked resistance is felt, insertion of the Nutsert is confirmed and the tool handle is rotated in an anti-clockwise direction to withdraw the nosepiece from the Nutsert and complete the operation. Price: £3 15s. THE Materials Handling division of Eaton Yale and Towne Inc. has introduced a discharged-battery indicator designed to prevent operators from over-discharging the traction batteries of their electric industrial trucks. Regular over-discharging decreases a battery's working life and can lead to damage to motors and control gear.

The Yale instrument senses the characteristics of a battery that vary as discharge occurs—output voltage and internal resistance of the cells. It provides complete protection against over-discharging by ensuring that the truck can only be worked until its battery has been discharged to the minimum permissible voltage.

Indication that the battery is discharged can be given in a number of ways. On a fork-lift truck, for example, the standard indicator cuts out the hydraulic-pump motor, thus preventing the driver from operating his truck but allowing him to drive back to the battery-charging station.

Yale is offering the indicator to other truck manufacturers and users as well as to buyers of its own range of models.

TH twin filament

A MAJOR breakthrough that may revolutionize vehicle headlighting is claimed by AEI Lamp and Lighting Co. (Mazda) which has announced the development of a twinfilament version of the tungsten-halogen bulb. Marketing has just begun.

Tungsten-halogen automobile lamps (sometimes called quartz-iodine lamps) were first introduced by Mazda three years ago. At that time only single-filament versions were possible and as a result they could only be used with auxiliary tamps or as headlamps with expensive two-bulb or mechanical-dipping systems.

The Mazda double-filament halogen headlight bulb is 1211, 55/43W, and is fitted with a standard British pre-focus doublecontact cap. This cap enables the lamp to be used as an immediate replacement for the standard 1317T-capped lamp; no form of adaptation or modification is required. Made by: AEI Lamp and Lighting Co. Ltd., Melton Road, Leicester.

Price: £2 9s 1 Id each.

Compact parts cleaner

A SMALL American-designed parts washer is now marketed by UKOTACO. It is the Electro-Magic Dura Churn and has a cleaning-solution capacity of 6gal.

Dimensions of the container are 15in. diameter by 17in. height and a churningtype cleaning action is produced by the introduction of compressed air into an actuating cylinder fitted to the lid. This is connected to an internal parts tray which is moved continuously up and down in the solution; a minimum air supply of 60 p.s.i. is needed.

Marketed by: UKOTACO, Shifnal, Shropshire.

Price: £25.

Floor surfacer

A FAST, easy, economical way to surface old and new floors is possible by the use of an improved version of Quentop floor surfacer.

The material, which is solvent-free, comes in two tins which are simply mixed together and poured on to the floor. The mixture is then levelled out with a trowel to give a jointless, smooth covering 0.0625in. thick which sets by chemical reaction overnight to take traffic.

Quentop can be applied to concrete, metal and wood and it is shrink-resistant. The absence of seams assists maintenance, durability and hygiene. The improved version enables the material to be applied in cold, damp conditions and it will cure satisfactorily even at 0 deg C.

A range of colours is available and the smooth texture may be modified to provide a non-slip or hard-wearing finish where required.

A TILLER-STEERED pallet truck capable of operating in cramped conditions and of lifting loads up to 2,2001b has been introduced by Liptons Fork Truck Centre. As well as meeting these requirements, the Lipton Mk4 incorporates other features which are of value in warehouses, including effective safety devices.

The truck has two forward and two reverse speeds and is supported by wide-track lateral castors for stability at high lifts. Although the Lipton Mk4 will cope with loads up to 2,2001b it weighs only 1,32011. And as the lifting platform measures only 3ft 4in. by 4ft, the truck can operate efficiently in aisles 6ft 8in. wide.

An electric motor drives the truck and the lifting actions are powered by an electrohydraulic system. Maximum lift is from 6ft 6in. to 13ft according to model and the drive wheel is spring-loaded so that the stabilizing wheels are always in contact with the ground.

An alternative, higher-capacity model, is the Lipton Mk5 which incorporates a wide-straddle design so that the forks can be lowered to ground level.

Made by: Liptons Fork Truck Centre, Pier Road, North Feltham Trading Estate, Feltham, Middlesex.

Price: From £900 including battery and charger.
