NEWCASTLE-ON-TYNE Traffic, Highways and Transport Committee have accepted a recommendation by the transport general manager (Mr. F. S. Taylor) that 31 double-decker buses, now on order, should be converted for one-man operation (CM, November 24). The cost will be £12,900. Mr. Taylor said that the new Transport Bill had a clause indicating that the Government would grant 25 per cent towards the cost of buses of an approved design, and he believed that the Minister was thinking of one-man buses.
