OPERATORS RUNNING older trucks which are at the Euro-2 emissions standard or below could soon be able to take advantage of retrofitting grants taking them to Euro-3 or above.
The plan is included in proposals put forward by the Energy Saving Trust (EST) as part of a revamp of the PowerShift and Cleanup grants — most of which focuses on cutting grant levels (see page 18).
It has been suggested that these grants would allow the first Euro-4 trucks to hit the road ahead of the October 2006 target date.The EST has dismissed these stories, saying that the grants are "intended to take Pre-Euro,Euro4 and Euro-2 vehicles up to Euro-3-plus standard. The CleanUp grant system is not intended to fund the early adoption of Euro-4 vehicles."
The proposed grants would help firms pay for retrofitting selective catalytic reduction systems.
